Query: How much is modern medicine connected to phaneromaniacal impulses? Get rid of scabs, scales, bits? The sad truth is that a zit does much better left to its own devices most of the time, rather than being prodded. Sometimes seems like medicine should back off too. Let things...slough.

Thank you for humoring this bizarre Monday morning thought.

Sure a zit does better left to its own devices, but c'mon, can you really leave it alone?

I was going to say, well,on the other hand, other people's zits...I had a boyfriend who complained because I was always picking at him, hairs, deadskin, and yeah, zits. My mother did the same thing to me. A couples counselor told us that it was actually a "grooming impulse" that humans have, just like primates. We want to groom our beloveds.

Well, I actually meant this in the area beyond the normal human grooming impulse, which I definitely get...like serious skin condition treatments and stuff. Can seem quite harsh there. But ordinary human tick-grooming impulse I definitely get.
